Top Tips to Remember When Wedding Dress Shopping
Wedding dress shopping should be a magical and memorable experience that both you and your loved ones can cherish. However in order to ensure it all runs smoothly, we have gathered up a list of our top tips to bare in mind before you begin, to make sure you have the best possible experience.
Shopping for a bridal gown is often a totally new and exciting experience, so at times it can become a little over whelming and it’s easy to forget what you want under the opinions of your bridal party. We’ve seen a number of beautiful brides to be and we know what works best and what to try and avoid, so here’s a few helpful tips to remember before you book your bridal boutique appointment…
Don’t bring too many people…
Often too many opinions and voices can end up being overwhelming and stop you having the special moment you deserve. We’d advise you bring 2-3 people along with you to Minster Designs, and chose those whose opinion you will truly appreciate.
Know what kind of bride you are…
If you’re going to be running around a lot and up on the dance floor, make sure you choose a dress you feel comfortable doing that in. It would be a shame to miss out on all that boogying!
Don’t rush and immediately rule out any dress…
Once you’ve put a dress on spend at least 5-10 minutes in it. It may not be the one but it could help you realise which one will be. It’s important to work out what it is you do and don’t like in each dress to help narrow down your search.
A strapless A-line dress will always be flattering…
If you are worried about flattering your body shape this is a universally flattering style. Accessories can also always be added to enhance and hide certain areas too. So never worry about not looking gorgeous and feeling confident on your big day.
Bring your heirlooms and accessories with you…
If you have a family heirloom you want to incorporate into your bridal look, bring it along to the appointment. This way we can take inspiration from it and ensure it works beautifully with your chosen dress.
Move in the dress and test it out…
When you’re trying on different dresses that you love make sure you move around in them. Test out your walk down the aisle and sitting down as well as getting back up! It’s important that you’re happy with the way it moves and how you move in it.
Know your venue and date before you shop…
As dresses often need to be ordered it is important to know your time frame to ensure the dress you love can be delivered and altered in time for your wedding day. It is also key to know your wedding venue to ensure your dress suits the location and style.
Don’t buy your veil until you’ve chosen your dress…
Ideally you don’t want to be limited when dress shopping due to your veil. It can also be tricky to exactly colour match a veil and dress if they are bought at different locations, as designers often use different colour scales and names.
Be honest about your budget…
We want you to fall in love with your wedding dress and would never want you to have to settle for second best. Make sure you tell us what you’re looking for and your price range, so we can find the perfect dress for all aspects.
