Wedding dress trends of 2025
Happy new year our wonderful MB family! We hope you had a fabulous Christmas surrounded by loved ones and plenty of overindulging in sweet treats and roast dinners.
Now, 2025 may be off to a bitterly cold start (the weather app literally tells me it feels like -6 right now), but things in the world of wedding dresses are certainly heating up! Let’s take a look at the forecast for 2025…
BASQUE/DROP WAISTLINES:
Starting off strong we have Basque waistlines. These date right back to the 1800’s, inspired by traditional Basque clothing (the Victorians really knew what they were doing with this), but are yet again becoming increasingly popular and are set to be BIG for 2025/2026.
It is characteristic by a high waistline that dips down at the front and rises up at the sides, creating a silhouette that accentuates the waist and adds a classic yet elegant flair to the gown. The Basque waistline is extremely versatile, it can be found in various styles of wedding dresses and can be particularly flattering for many body types. For hourglass body types it will accentuate the natural curves, for pear shape body types it will draw attention to the waist while balancing the proportions between the upper and lower body and for rectangle shape body types it will create the illusion of curves, a win-win for everyone!
JACQUARD/BROCADE FABRICS AND TEXTURES:
Luxurious, romantic and regal. A must try for brides on the hunt for their dream dress this year. Jacquard is known for its intricate, woven designs, which can include anything from florals and lines to geometric designs. Brocade is very similar in that it’s also woven, but it usually features ornate and raised designs and frequently uses metallic threads, think Princess Eugenie’s iconic wedding dress!
These fabrics ooze opulence, making them popular choices for brides looking for something unique and luxurious. This material is often heavier than other fabrics, ensuring it’s a suitable material for structured designs, however there are definitely some lighter weight options in our boutique’s for those spring/summer weddings. Churches, castles and grand manor house’s are the perfect backdrops for this gorgeous material.
JOSEPHINE SCOTT – PHOEBE
SOFT COLOURS:
Don’t panic! Ivory isn’t going anywhere. But we are seeing more and more of our designers introduce these brand new colourful colour ways and we’re not mad about it. Colours like blush pinks, lavenders and soft blues tend to work beautifully on the majority of complexions and are incredible to photograph. Over the years we’ve come across many brides who have said they just didn’t feel like themselves while wearing ivory, so we think colour is an excellent way for our more daring brides to be playful and really dive into self-expression, but we will warn you now, most mums/mother-in-law’s probably WILL panic at first.
CORSETRY:
Now we know this one isn’t new, but this bridgerton-esque trend certainly isn’t going anywhere this year – if you’ve tried on a gown with exposed corsetry before you will know why. We all want our silhouette snatched on our big day, and this bodice is the answer!
As well as its figure hugging structure, corsetry also provides a gown with timeless elegance due to its association with vintage or historical styles. Similarly to the Basque waistline, it’s giving classic glamour.
MONREAL – SCARLETT
So, which of these trends are you eager to try on this year? We just know you’ll look beautiful!
